What is the “Millennium”? The doctrine of the millennium is inexcusably ignored in many churches, yet it is a central doctrine of the Bible and particularly relevant today as we consider our relationship to the State of Israel. What are the three major views on the doctrine of the Millennium? This question can be answered in three words: premillennialism, postmillennialism, and amillennialism. But can you describe each position? Can you defend the position that you hold? How about the position held by your church, denomination, or pastor? Do you even know what that position is? As to which position one holds, I have heard even pastors repeat a commonly used joke. They say, “I am ‘pan-millennial’–I believe it’ll all pan out in the end.” Clever, perhaps, but an utterly deplorable insult to God and his sacred word. Numerous passages in both the Old and New Testaments deal with the subjects that are addressed in the doctrine of the Millennium. Are we to say to God that we are not interested in studying and interpreting those passages? Just ignore those portions of the Bible until we get to Heaven? Daniel and the Latter Days by Dr. Robert Culver is one of the finest presentations of premillennialism available. However, he also carefully and fairly defines each of the other two views on the Millennium and reveiws the arguments used to defend them. This is a book that every Christian who takes Bible study seriously should read. | Dr. Robert D.Culver was a long-time professor of systematic theology at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. He has written many books, but this one was his first. Daniel and the Latter Days was published in 1954 by Moody Press, Chicago. The book is in two parts. The first part of the book gives a careful and precise definition of premillennialism and a thorough yet concise defense of it. The arguments are unassailable. The second part of the book demonstrates that premillennialism is the only approach consistent with a grammatical-historical interpretation of Daniel. We have reproduced the entire book; this is not a condensation. | Culver Part 1 | Preface and Introduction |
